Precinct 27 Democrats β Virtual Town Hall Series with Justice Anita Earls
Durham County Democrats in Precinct 27 are hosting the second in a series of Virtual Town Halls featuring The Honorable Anita Earls, Associate Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court and 2026 Democratic candidate for re-election. Of crucial importance is that we do everything we can for Anita Earls to retain her State Supreme Court seat for a second eight-year term as Associate Justice. For over thirty years Justice Earls has been at the forefront of civil rights and social justice struggles. Reelecting her and the three Democratic candidates to the North Carolina Court of Appeals in November will be a big step toward regaining a majority on the NC Supreme Court where currently Republicans have a 5 – 2 majority. Second Virtual Town Hall in a series hosted by Precinct 27 π Saturday, February 28 β° 9:30 – 10:30 AM π Presenter: Justice Anita Earls Justice Earls will introduce herself to those who don’t yet know about her social activist and legal experience. She then will lay out the vital importance of her reelection and the 2028 election of Democrats to three other seats on the NC Supreme court, currently held by Republicans. A short Q & A session will follow.

Durham Democrats Winter Food Drive
The Durham Democrats are hosting a Winter Food Drive. Our first successful drive in November gathered over 7 tons of food for local pantries. However, after the holidays, donations to pantries are at their annual low. Hunger is forgotten. The need continues to be acute especially in light of rising grocery prices. We will be collecting between February 14 and 27. You may reach out to your Precinct Chair to find out where they are collecting in your neighborhood. Or run your own collection by contacting your friends and neighbors to let them know about this easy way to give back to our community. We will be sharing our bounty with: Iglesia Emanuel Food Pantry, Parktown Food Hub, USSW Food Pantry (United Southern Service Workers) and the Walltown Food Pantry Here is what we need: Non-perishable CANNED and BOXED food (NO GLASS CONTAINERS, PLEASE), feminine and personal products. Grocery store gift cards are also a great way to participate. This allows the food pantries to fill in their shelves where needed. Some suggestions are: good protein sources-peanut butter, canned chicken and tuna, protein bars, mac & cheese and soup, cereal, canned vegetables, canned fruit (low sugar), pasta, sauce (canned) and beans. Please do not donate anything past its expiration date and focus on low sugar and sodium products. In closing, to participate: - reach out to your Precinct Chair to donate between Feb. 14-27. (Let us know if you don't know who that is. We can point you in the right direction.) - If your precinct is not actively participating, let us know that too. We have a list of places that will accept donation during the drive. - OR bring your donation directly to the sorting location on February 28 BY 12 NOON to 1737 Hillandale Road in Durham (St. Luke's Episcopal Church). - If you would like to participate but none of the above work for you, let us know. We can work with you.
Help Sort Winter Food Drive Donations
We need lots of help sorting what we hope will be a big pile of canned goods from our Winter Food Drive. If our Fall Food Drive was any indication, the pile will indeed be large. We gathered over 7 tons of food. We are giving to four separate food banks in Durham and want each organization to receive an equal donation from us. Bring your whole family! Great opportunity for children too.
- Saturday, February 28 10:30 am - 1:00 pm
- Saturday, February 28 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm
Help Deliver Winter Food Drive Collection
We need 7 large vehicles and drivers on February 28 to deliver our bounty to the four participating food pantries in Durham. We need you (and your large car/truck!) between 3-4:30pm. There will be help to unload at each of the four food pantries.
- Saturday, February 28 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
