What you can do today.... (links are underlined)

  • Register new voters!  6,690 registered Democrats were taken off the Durham County voter rolls in 2009 due to list maintenance.  We need to get a few of those back.  And let's not forget--it could be argued that voter registration was the key to Democratic success in 2008.  Given a winning margin of 14,000 votes, you have to believe that every new registration was important.  Voter registration is easy and fun, so start planning a voter registration drive today.  Let us know if you are interested.
  • Educate yourself, part one--that's a pretty impressive record for a first year in office, and quite probably, you haven't heard a word about most of it.
  • Do you live in an apartment complex?  Apartments account for a high number of Durham County voters who are either not registered, or who have moved recently and not updated their information.  More importantly, apartment residents tend to be younger voters, the kind who didn't show up during recent elections of some notoriety.  Approach the management of your complex about hosting a voter registration drive, and let us know if they agree.  We'll give you all the supplies and training you need for a succesful event.
  • Are there ghosts in your home? A clean voter database is one of the keys to success in any election.  Look up your address at the Durham County Board of Elections web site.  Are persons listed who no longer live at your address?  Let us know about it.
  • Educate yourself, part two.  Health care and jobs are just two of the more important issues facing our country.  Make it a point to learn more about other legislation, and let your representatives know how you feel about it.  The web site Open Congress offers a wealth of information about pending legislation, and Congress Matters does an excellent job keeping its readers up to date on issues currrently under debate.
  • It's the little things.  Is there an issue in your neighborhood?  Need some help presenting your case to the city or county government?  Let us know about it!
  • Attend your precinct meeting!  On March 9th, Democrats all over Durham County will gather for our annual precinct meetings.  If we are to succeed in November, we'll need a strong organization in every precinct.  A full list of all precinct meetings and locations will be posted on this site by mid-February.
  • Volunteer for a campaign.  We'll post an updated list of all candidates and campaign web sites by February 1st.
  • Take ownership of your party. A comprehensive list of all Democratic Party organizations is here.  If the Democratic Party is doing something you don't like, let them know about it.
